Computers

I thought I'd give a list of all the hardware/machines I have, for no particular reason.

Bob (tom)

Bob is my Network server (DNS/DHCP/Gateway) and Mail server. It is a bog standard Compaq DeskPro PIII 660 running RedHat 7.2, and had made a grand uptime of a year before it was shut for the room to be redecorated.

Bob is also used for sending SMS' and VPN/dial in, as well as handling all the email along with mailman and apache for squirrelmail.

Frank (jerry)

Frank is the Data server (which includes MySQL, Apache, and all my data). It is a custom built Athlon 1Ghz with 512MB of RAM and a total of 82.5GB of space running RedHat 7.2.

Fred

Fred is my faithful laptop and follows me almost everywhere. It used to be a Sony Vaio F801A I bought off eBay until someone helpfully stood on it. The "nice" insurance company then let me have a nice shiny Vaio GRT 995MP for £400 :D. Much to my colleagues horror, this came preinstalled with Windows XP. I re imaged this a few times to rearrange the partitions for Fedora Core 2 leaving me with a nice 45GB of space, along with the 2.8Ghz CPU and lovely screen.

Jim

Jim is a Sun Ultra 5 I have running Solaris 8 dual booting with Gentoo Linux and is used purely as a play machine (and SETI@Home).

Richard

Richard is an old Compaq DeskPro running Win2K dual booting with Solaris 8 (for Intel) which I occasionally use to remind why I'm not moving to Visual Studio.NET.

Betty

Betty is my original 486 DX4 100 running RedHat 7.1 off a 240MB hard disk (using 130MB) and only 32MB of RAM. It's used as a machine for controlling external devices via an 8255 based digital I/O card.
